The Story Behind ANIMAL ANDY

During this fun interactive discussion, kids will discover how The Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo was the inspiration for ANIMAL ANDY. Kids will learn about some of the zoo’s real animals and how the funny stories told by zoo keepers became important parts of the book. Using book excerpts, the kids will be able to recognize descriptions of the zoo and share their own favorite zoo experiences.

Recipe for Making a Spectacular Story

During this fun, interactive workshop, kids will discover the secret recipe for writing a story. They will learn about the essential ingredients (characters, setting, plot, etc.); how to blend them together, and even have the opportunity to make their own and take it home to enjoy! 

A SENSE OF FICTION
How to Write Using Your 5 Senses

During this fun, interactive workshop, kids will learn how to write using their five senses: touch, taste, sight, sound, and smell. They will read different examples and be able to practice writing their own short scene with vivid descriptions that will appeal to all the senses.
